THE CLOCK SHOPS NOTES
(Just a few tidbits here and there to help you with your clock and just some general info too!)
German spring wound clocks should be wound full tight. It exercises the full spring.
They are 8-day movements, which allows you to wind your clock weekly. 95% of clocks are wound on Sunday's, as it is normally a leisurely day, which helps you remember.
Most mantel clocks do not have pendulums. They do not require being leveled to the beat of the clock. Time regulation (if required) is very precise and is done with a small screwdriver.

TIME REGULATION FOR PENDULUM CLOCKS
Key wound and weight driven clocks with pendulums are time regulated by raising or lowering the pendulum. Run your clock 24 hours then note if your clock is on time, to fast or to slow. Write down how slow or fast your clock is running. Lower is slower. If it is running to fast lower the pendulum by turning the "Time Regulation" knurled nut on the very bottom of the pendulum to the left (counter clockwise looking up) On wall clocks 1 full turn = approximately 1 ½ minutes slower in 24 hours. On Grandfather clocks the effect is 30 seconds in 24 hours per full turn.
I have several customers that take a chiming clock when they travel to sleep.
Chimes in the work place increase productivity by 3-4 %.
Waiting rooms should have chiming clocks.
There is one age group, which does not like chiming clocks. These are teenagers, as you know what time they came in without looking at the clock!
Moon dials on clocks shows us how much moon we have outside

THE EMOTIONAL SIDE OF CLOCKS!!!
A clock is a piece of furniture (The finish on the wood is important), plus it tells time, plus it has mellow soothing chimes.
When choosing a clock for your mantel it is best to put cherry or walnut on an oak mantel. The contrast accents the clock and the mantel.
If you have not been exposed to chiming clocks, it may take a few days to get accustomed to the chimes. You may silence your chimes at night until this happens. When you are accustomed to the chimes your consciousness tunes out the chimes unless you wish to hear them. Your sub-consciousness hears every note. If you can hear the chiming when you are sleeping, you will sleep better due to the rhythm of the chimes.
I have had several psychologists tell me they have taken their clients off of sleeping pills after they got a chiming clock they could hear at night. I've had several customers tell me they woke up during the night when their clock stopped. Their sub-conscious woke them up because the clock did not chime.
History of Chimes
Westminster Chime: Arranged form Handel's oratorio " I Know That My Redeemer Liveth: and best known as the chimes of Big Ben. This four-bell chime is the most widely used chime in modern clocks. Westminster chime is called a 4x4 chime. It chimes 4 notes at ¼ past the hour then adds 4 notes each ¼ hours then strikes the number of hours.
Chiming clocks become an important part of our homes and our lives. They often become heirlooms.
